MANICURE MUSE: Christian Dior Fall ‘13
Andy Warhol inspired the Christian Dior pop art that inspired me to inspire you… get the Ladyfinger.
MANICURE MUSE: Erdem Fall ‘13
Come over to the dark side with Erdem and me… get the Ladyfinger.
MANICURE MUSE: Peter Pilotto Spring ‘13
Appreciating Peter Pilotto takes some training, since it’s easy to get overwhelmed due to overstimulation. For Spring ’13, the masters of digital prints, Christopher de Vos and Peter Pilotto, innovate even further. This season they build patterns not only using prints, but also by using beadwork, embroidery, and sculpted knots. What I always appreciate season after season is how they are able to create clothes that move with a woman’s body using curvilinear color-blocking. This sweater is definitely one to keep your eyes peeled for. In the meantime, take a look at my picks of color-blocked sweaters for Fall.
MANICURE MUSE: Christopher Kane Spring ‘13
Monster goth goes femme for Christopher Kane’s quirky Spring ’13 collection. Frankenstein gets the runway treatment quite literally as the source of inspiration. Offbeat details like rubbery bows and black electrical tape (pictured here) make ladylike looks an edge, but it’s the Frankenstein screen tees that give the collection an electric jolt. I’m going to need one of those ASAP.
MANICURE MUSE: Ajak Deng in Chanel for Obsession Magazine
I stumbled across this editorial from Obsession Magazine and fell in love with the futuristic take on the Fall ’12 collections. Ajak Deng models the likes of Chanel, Balmain, Prada, and Balenciaga with the most fierce techno warrior armor. This Chanel jacket, in particular, really caught my eye with the 3-D geometric panes on such a feminine silhouette. If it’s any indication of where Chanel is heading in the future, then let’s thank our lucky stars.

MANICURE MUSE: Karlie Kloss in Prada for British Vogue September ‘12
You may recall the Prada post I did a few months back. Well, it’s time for another, because the Fall ’12 collection is just too loud and fabulous to ignore. Plus, when Karlie Kloss is involved… game over. Models rarely get cover page real estate, let alone a September issue– and Karlie scored both (the Olympic gold medal of modeling). In the September issue of British Vogue photographed by Nick Knight, she models the season’s iconic printed dandy suits by A-list designers Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, and, of course, Prada. For Fall, there’s no such thing as excess, so if you’re going to attempt this look you might as well embrace the ladyfingers with open arms.

MANICURE MUSE: VEDA Holiday ‘12 Lookbook
One of the big trends for Fall is out of this world… literally. Galactic-inspired garments popped up all over the runways from Timo Weiland’s digital prints to Balenciaga’s Star Trek screen pullovers. VEDA, a New York-based designer, takes the trend to the street with metallic denim and bold pieces in high-shine fabrications. I have a fascination with skulls and bones (check out my Skulls and Bones pinboard), so my favorite pieces from this collection are a knit top with leather piecing emulating a spine/rib cage and this leather moto jacket with the bone sleeve detail.

MANICURE MUSE: Peter Pilotto Resort ‘13
As many of you well know, I love a good music festival. Between the music, the fashion, and the food, it’s like my very own Candyland. This past weekend was Lollapalooza, and being a Chicago-native, I’d never miss out on an excuse to go home and frolic around Grant Park grooving to headliners like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kaskade. While the average concert-goer might agonize over the perfect “effortless” festival outfit, the perfect Ladyfinger manicure always tops my list. Luckily, Peter Pilotto came to my rescue with a very loud and bright Resort ‘13 collection. The collection features a multitude of trippy kaleidoscope prints that will be sure to dazzle you. Needless to say, the weekend (and the Pilotto Ladyfingers) was a huge success. Aside from a weather-related evacuation hiccup, I saw some of my favorite musicians (The Black Keys were unreal!), ran into old and new friends—including Jena of ChiCityFashion, and even accidentally got to catch day three and close out the amazing weekend under the stars with the rest of Chicago.

MANICURE MUSE: Suno ‘13
I’m a big fan of any designer that can make easy, comfortable pieces look socially acceptable to wear anywhere outside my bedroom. I’m sure I’m not alone on this one, so let’s give a very big round of applause to Suno for creating a Resort ’13 collection that embraces both “casual” and “comfort” as buzzwords. Geometric lines are paired with sweet pink florals, so while the silhouettes are oversized and easy, the prints do the talking. Simply slap on a pair of heels and strut with ease.

MANICURE MUSE: Altuzarra Resort ‘13
It’s always a trip with Joseph Altuzarra, who is known to have a knack for multicultural fusion. His Resort ’13 collection combines safari and gypsy. Tailored safari outerwear is mixed with peasant tops and dresses in an eye-catching ikat print. The newness is how the print is worked back to career separates with handcrafted details. I love how the top is styled with this textured skirt. If you squint, you can see the gold hardware that amps it up to a dressier place. These nails were particularly fun to do. I’ve always been eager to try an ikat print, and it was way easier than I thought! See below to learn how and be sure to post your results to the MLF Facebook page!
